Captain Tom Burnett
Captain Tom Burnett grew up in the area of Point Atkinson, West Vancouver. With the purchase of an old wooden inboard motor boat at age thirteen he has been on the water ever since. His professional marine career has covered a wide range from humble beginnings as deckhand on the Vancouver Harbor garbage boat to Mate and Captain with the tugboat company Seaspan International. Captain Burnett has been an active officer in the Canadian Merchant Service Guild since 1991.
Tom's varied interests in the marine industry have included working in Australia's Sydney Harbor, both on a tour vessel and as coal stoker on a vintage steam pilot tug. Here in B.C. he has worked commercially for over 25 years towing logs and barges. Coastal work includes areas between Seattle and Klawok Alaska, the Queen Charlotte Islands and the west coast of Vancouver Island. Aside from towboat work, he also as Skippered a charter vessel on the north and central coast which provided helicopter skiing, charter fishing and forestry contracts. Tom has also for many years been a volunteer involved with the operation of North Americas last surviving wooden hulled steam tug, the S.S. Master. Tom maintains his interest in restoring and cruising vintage powerboats from his home on Salt Spring Island, where he has lived since 1993.
Already certified with his 500 ton ticket, Tom is presently upgrading to a 3000 ton ticket. I think that makes him more than qualified to handle our little 39 ton vessel!
